OSHA Promotes Safe Work Settings for Women in Construction

Increasing Support for Women in Construction

Recently, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced its renewed partnership with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) to help build a safer, healthier work environment for females in the construction industry. These two organizations are set to provide women with more information, guidance, and access to training resources so that they can excel in their careers.

This is a five-year initiative with a goal to address workplace hazards, particularly those that women are susceptible to, including personal protective equipment, sanitation, and workplace intimidation. There is only a small percentage of women in the construction industry currently, but there has been significant growth over the last few years.

Now that OSHA and NAWIC are joining forces, we can expect to see more women feeling comfortable and confident in their construction roles, inspiring others to join. What’s more, there will be innovative solutions designed to directly address female workers’ concerns, health hazards, and safety. The two biggest concerns women spoke out against were the lack of personal protective equipment and a lack of adequate bathroom facilities. For example, some females reported not drinking water during the day to avoid having to use the bathroom. These concerns hurt employment – which is why it is so important they are addressed.

The two organizations aim to raise awareness, share information, and create innovative workplace solutions on:

  • Occupational safety and health laws
  • Standards and guidance resources
  • The rights and responsibilities of workers and employees

We can expect to see some exciting new developments that are more inclusive for everyone. While you are focusing on your own business, let the professionals handle your insurance needs. For assistance with your business insurance, contact the professionals at Artisan Insurance Solutions today.
